I have shed envy again, I need to get some heat in one of my buildings to start some of my seedlings off in the new year........... you guys give me lots of ideas.
Hi Jane love watching your videos I feel I know you. You are so natural. How lovely to have the fire in your shed. It doesn’t seem like a plot seems like it’s your home. 👍👋🏻
You mentioned keeping the matches in a tin box to keep them dry, it also protects them from mice. I have heard of motorhomes catching on fire because mice got in and chewed the matches an started a fire.
That was a delight to see that roaring! I've not started mine up yet, but it's on my list to get my stove going. It's such a treat to walk into a warm shed after a cold damp hour of gardening. Even just to dry the coat off haha Danny 🌱
Dear Jane, we all love this sort of thing, including me. I even have the same stove for use in my tipi, but I'd never install it in a building as it is such poor quality. Just like mine, it's tinny low quality temporary fix for an overnight camping trip & no more. Sorry to point this out, but just look at your set up, you don't even have a hearthstone. That stove works OK on the lawn or the each, but not on a wooden floor. Do you have a Carbon Monoxide detector in there? I hope so. This is why we have HEATAS regulations, to keep us all safe, although strictly speaking they apply to your house, not your shed. I'm not a killjoy, I've seen it, so please do be careful. NIce dog, nice shed, look after them.
Thanks Ashley. We actually do have a carbon monoxide detector in the shed - we use them at home as well for our open fires so know how important they are. I think because the tent stove is only getting limited use it works okay - one or two small fires a week at most. We did have a heatproof mat but to be honest I moved it after I'd cleaned the stove out as it got quite marked - must get another. But if you look close I'm sure you can see the shed is definitely not a sealed unit - in fact if you look to the left of the stove on the thumbnail you can see a vent, plus it warms up so quickly we usually have the door open as well! I do appreciate your concern though - you make some very valid points. Thank you.
Plus if you look just behind my head you'll see a big gap where there's a piece of glass missing from the window 🙂 I'll try and mention it when I film for next week's video though - it's good for people to be aware.
@@JanesGrowingGarden Champion bonny lass, well done. A squeezy bottle of water allows you to hit any outbreak of fire from the doorway too by the way. If you ever want it to burn for a longer time between stoking, peat briquettes do the job,..almost lasting overnight.
jane you must be a mind reader! I have been thinking about perhaps doing some RUclips videos but I have no idea how to make one. What is really stopping me is not having a clue how to record the video and then how to edit it. Any help you could share would be most gratefully received. My veg garden is attached to the house and I don't have a stove or anything in the shed because it is easy enough to come back to the house to get a drink or warm up. But I am intending to use it more as a potting shed so maybe I need one in there. I did get an old woodstove installed in the workshop to keep it a bit drier and it is a lovely thing to have. You have made me think about another old stove which is lying around - maybe that could usefully go in the potting shed.
It is lovely being able to cosy on up to the stove but do make sure you have some ventilation - our old shed has plenty (none of it intentional!) Yes I'll definitely be mentioning what you can use to film and edit but my main piece of advice would be to get a microphone, look into the camera and not the screen and don't swing around and make your viewers seasick! There are plenty of free editing suites to have a play with - many will come attached to your device - be it a phone or PC. For example I use iMovie as it came free with the Mac. There will normally be a few tutorials to get you started but the best thing is to have a play around with it and pick it up bit by bit - I'm still finding new things. Give it a go! Thanks Sue.
@@JanesGrowingGarden Thank you so much for that. I appreciate your generosity. I shall explore what is available -not sure what all the things on this mac mini do! And a good point about having a microphone. I am completely redesigning my growing area after the 20 odd year old raised beds started to collapse so it will be a while before I am ready to publish anything but I know it will take a while for me to become proficient at making videos. so i want to start learning now and maybe do some of the 'before' ones.
That looks so cosy! I’ve just started an allotment RUclips channel, and I’d love to know any editing tips you have. And also how long it took you to find your “style” so to speak.
It looks like you got your smoke pipe upside down .so when it rains the rain flow down the pipe, hits the junction.then it flow down the in side the pipe.
I'm keen to start my own channel but no idea how or where to start. I would need the Dummies guide I think 😂... Love your shed, I have a camping gas heater but if it's to cold the gas won't work🙄... Living in the Scottish Highlands that's more often that not 🤣🤣
It's simple enough, you have the wrong gas, you're probably using a blue cyinder. Butane liquifies at 0C & gives off no vapours, whereas Propane ( red cylinder) works down to -40C.
Who cares how you pronounce Norwegian words? We're not that easily offended, I hope. 😅 Glad you got the stove going. That new hat looks like it could also let some rain in, don't know if it ever rains sideways in your area.
Ha ha it's a bit of a tongue twister - a Krumkakke! Really looking forward to trying it out! Yes we're hoping the rain won't fall at much of an angle - we shall see! Thank you.
@@JanesGrowingGarden We have so many dialects in this small country, however you decide to say it, it's probably pronounced like that somewhere. 😄 I say krumkak. I've never made it, so it'll be interesting to watch. It's one of the seven pastry/biscuit/cookies one should serve for Christmas.
Now, I'll tell you what Jane. You say nice and cosy in the shed, but you are sat in a draught where there is a piece of glass missing from your window! 🤣😂🤣 Awh, cummon, someone was gonna say it!

Honestly I can't recommend having a fire in the shed strongly enough - aside from it being really practical it's just ...really nice! Thanks Jason.
@@JanesGrowingGarden I'll have to assess my options, my buildings aren't very big. 😁

What a gorgeous cozy spot you've got there 😊
It’s sometimes difficult to leave and get on with the garden! Thanks Tamsin.
Jane it was so nice to see you on the middle sized garden. Those stained glass windows are a beautiful backdrop.
Oh thank you! Yes the windows were perfect when we rebuilt the shed - they’d been sitting under a hedge for some time! Glad you like it.
Hi Jane, nice to get warmth back into shed, you need it on these damp drizzly days.
I wasn’t looking forward to cleaning it out but so glad I did! Thanks Ady x
What a fabulous, cosy space to grab a cuppa over the winter months! Perfect! ☕️🔥
